Matching Fund Program Announced For Wireless Access Points
To expand wireless networking (802.11n) access on campus, matching funds will be available to reduce the cost for wireless access point installations, announced Pierce E. Cantrell, Vice President & Associate Provost for Information Technology (memorandum).
Priority for support will go to academic departments, student-use areas and projects that complete the coverage of an entire building. Proposals will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until the matching funds are depleted.
The program uses a special allocation from the Offices of the Provost and Executive Vice President and the Vice President and Associate Provost for Information Technology. Because of the funding source, the program is only available to Texas A&M departments, and Auxiliary Enterprises are not eligible.
The cost to the department for a new access point approved for matching funds will be 29 percent of the regular cost, i.e., $398.75 per access point instead of $1,375. Total project cost will be determined after completion of a site survey, and it may include allowances for student common areas or other work in progress.
Installation requests and questions may be sent via email to email@example.com or call Networking and Information Security at 979.862.2222.
