NetID Password Requirements to Change
Published: May 17, 2012
Starting Thursday, May 17, all new NetID passwords will require an upper and lowercase character. The new password requirements will strengthen the security of Texas A&M’s computing infrastructure. NetID passwords can now include either a number or a special character and no longer have to start with a letter. The characters @, $, and ; have been added to the allowed character set.
This will only affect passwords created after May 17; existing passwords will continue to work until expiration.
This is the first in a series of expected changes that will increase the security and flexibility of NetID authentication, as well as advance Texas A&M’s effort to conform to InCommon identity assurance requirements. InCommon is a formal federation of organizations focused on creating a common framework for collaborative trust in support of research and education.
