TAMULink Upgrade to Boost Wireless Coverage and Performance

TAMULink campus wireless is being upgraded with Aruba 802.11n access points, replacing the legacy Cisco wireless network. Networking & Information Security, a department of Texas A&M Information Technology, chose Aruba Networks to support the rapid growth in mobile device use by students, faculty and staff.

The proliferation of always-on wireless devices, such as mobile phones and tablets, places a tremendous strain on the campus wireless infrastructure. The Aruba 802.11n upgrade will help alleviate issues with wireless coverage and reliability.

Approximately 3,000 Aruba 802.11n access points have been installed, providing about 60 percent wireless coverage on campus. Planned installation of additional access points will deliver close to campus-wide coverage.

Networking & Information Security (NIS), a department of Texas A&M Information Technology, maintains and supports the campus community network backbone and provides network connections. NIS is responsible for Internet connectivity, campus wireless services and the university's information security program.
