Get Involved, Stay Informed, Be Heard
Texas A&M University's current contract with Blackboard Learn (eCampus) will expire on August 31, 2021. As a result, Texas A&M Vice President of IT and Chief Information Officer, Dee Childs, directed the IT Governance program to develop a faculty-centric Learning Management System (LMS) selection committee to review LMS products currently available in the marketplace.
The LMS Selection Committee, comprised of representatives from all Texas A&M colleges and campuses, was formed on September 14, 2018, and will submit a recommendation for a replacement LMS by Summer, 2019. A new LMS for Texas A&M will be selected and phased in to replace the current LMS by 2021.
Following three months of vendor demonstrations, hands-on workshops with vendors, trial accounts with each LMS, webinars and faculty and staff forums, the time has come to add your voice to the selection process and vote on the final LMS recommendation.
Please take this short survey at u.tamu.edu/lms-survey by April 17 and have your voice heard.

December Email Announcement (Distributed 12/20/2018)
LMS Selection Committee
Sent on behalf of the IT Governance - Learning Management System Selection Sub-Committee
Texas A&M's current contract with eCampus (a.k.a. Blackboard Learn) will expire on August 31, 2021. As a result, Texas A&M Vice President for IT and Chief Information Officer, M. Dee Childs, directed the IT Governance program to develop a faculty-centric Learning Management System (LMS) selection committee to review LMS systems currently available in the marketplace. A new LMS for Texas A&M will be selected and phased in to replace the current LMS by 2021.
The LMS Selection Committee (LMS-SC), comprised of representatives from all TAMU colleges and campuses, was formed on September 14, 2018 and will submit a recommendation for a replacement LMS by Summer, 2019, to the IT Governance - Executive IT Council.
The LMS-SC, a part of the IT Governance Program - Teaching & Transformational Learning Technologies Committee (TTLTC), is co-chaired by Dr. James Snell, Director of Instructional Technology Services, and Dr. Catharina Laporte, Chairperson of the TTLTC. Over the past four months, the LMS-SC reviewed numerous systems and identified three LMS finalists: Canvas, Blackboard Ultra, and Brightspace (Desire2Learn).
To ensure all members of the Texas A&M University community have a voice in the selection of our next LMS, the LMS-SC has developed a selection process that includes multiple opportunities to participate in live vendor demonstrations, hands-on workshops, webinars, surveys, and feedback forums. The attached timeline outlines the selection process that will take place throughout the Spring 2019 semester.
We want you to be part of the selection process and invite you to save the date and register for upcoming events:
- Monday, Jan 28 -- Canvas Demonstration
- Tuesday, Jan 29 -- Canvas Workshops
- Monday, Feb 18 -- Blackboard Ultra Demonstration
- Tuesday, Feb 19 -- Blackboard Ultra Workshops
- Monday, March 18 -- Desire2Learn/Brightspace Demonstration
- Tuesday, March 19 -- Desire2Learn/Brightspace Workshops
- Wednesday, April 3 -- Feedback Forum 1 (MSC 2400)
- Thursday, April 4 -- Feedback Forum 2 (Rudder Tower 601)
Throughout the selection process, we encourage the university community to visit the LMS Selection website where you can access resources, register for events, review the selection process, contact your college or campus representative, review evaluation criteria, and provide feedback to the LMS-SC.
The LMS-SC is excited for this grand opportunity to transition to an LMS that will better meet the needs of Texas A&M students, faculty, and staff. We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming events. Have questions? Email lms-review@tamu.edu or contact your college or campus representative.
