Chief Technology Officer

Cheryl Cato is the Associate Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for the Division of IT at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. The division provides enterprise IT services to over 68,000 faculty, staff and students at the 5,300-acre Texas A&M University main campus and Health Science Center, as well as to the seven agency affiliates and ten member campuses of the Texas A&M University System. Cheryl provides leadership, oversight and direction for the technical teams that design, install and support enterprise IT Infrastructure services including wired and wireless networks, virtualization and storage infrastructures, message services, mainframe systems, identity and access management services, telecommunications, video services, service desk, and the campus data centers.

Cheryl has held various previous roles in her 29-year career at Texas A&M, including Director of Infrastructure & Operations and Associate Director of Infrastructure Services.

Major accomplishments from teams led by Cheryl include:

  • Design and deployment of a comprehensive Identity and Access Management program for Texas A&M to improve security, compliance and improve efficiency.
  • Introduction of the first Shared Services Initiatives to provide highly available, business class service platforms for critical university IT services.
  • Implementation of a program to upgrade and significantly expand wireless network services on campus.
  • The construction and delivery of a new, high-security data center to expand services for the campus.
Before coming to Texas A&M, Cheryl worked for The Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University.
