Michael Phillips, a dedicated software applications developer III in the Technology Services department, has been recognized with the prestigious 2024 Texas A&M University Community Engagement Award for Staff. This accolade is a testament to his exemplary commitment to volunteerism and community improvement.

The Community Engagement Award, initiated by the Student Government Association in partnership with the Office of the President Community Engagement in 2023, celebrates individuals who demonstrate outstanding selfless service through volunteerism and contribute to the local and university community, aligning with Texas A&M’s mission of service to society. Michael’s exceptional contributions stood out among a pool of remarkable nominations.

Vice President for Information Technology and CIO, Ed Pierson, lauded Michael’s remarkable leadership in raising funds for the Texas State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) and local charities. Pierson highlighted Michael’s coordination of various initiatives such as food drives, bake sales, and online auctions, underscoring his positive impact within the division and the broader community.

The selection committee commended Michael for his cross-collaboration with numerous community agencies, promoting awareness, volunteerism and philanthropy both within his department and beyond. His dedication and efforts have significantly enriched the Texas A&M community.

Michael will be formally honored at the upcoming Staff and Student Excellence Awards ceremony on April 10 at 3 p.m. in Rudder Theater.
