Remote Work Resources for Texas A&M Health
In case of an emergency, the ability to interact with employees and students in dispersed locations may become increasingly important. Texas A&M Technology Services provides tools to continue communications and maintain productivity. Most of these resources require advance preparation, and we encourage you to learn how to use these resources before a situation requires you to work off-campus.
If you work with financial information, student records or other confidential information, please encrypt all data, files, and email messages that you use from home. Visit the Protecting Confidential Information webpage for more information.
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
There are some resources, including websites or files, that you can only access while connected to the Texas A&M network. When a VPN connection is established, it creates an encrypted communication path between your computer and the VPN server. VPN provides increased security and the same level of access as a direct connection to the Texas A&M network.
Please visit the Virtual Private Network (VPN) page for instructions on how to configure and use VPN.
Remote Desktop
Remote Desktop is a technology that allows you to access a computer from a remote location as if you were sitting right in front of it. This means you can access all the resources and functionality on the computer, such as using its programs, opening and editing files, and managing device settings.
Please visit the Remote Desktop page to learn more.
Call Forwarding and Voicemail
A solution has been developed to deploy softphones, which provides the ability for your office phone to work via software on a computer. Options are also available to forward your work telephone number to your personal phone number and check your voicemails online.
Please visit the Cisco VoIP Phones and Voicemail page for additional information.
Zoom Videoconferencing
Zoom allows you to have online meetings with anyone who has an Internet connection—including mobile users. You will be connected via audio and/or video and can share content from your computer, which lets you see the same things at the same time, such as PowerPoint files, Word documents or even browse the web together. Within the meeting as a host, you can transfer control so any attendee can lead the meeting and share.
To view additional information about Zoom for Texas A&M, visit the Zoom Videoconferencing webpage or get started using Zoom at tamu.zoom.us.
