The Closeout stage of the STAR System starts when a funded project is ready to be finalized. Typically, all data have been collected, reviewed and analyzed at this point. This stage includes all programmatic and administrative requirements for finishing the project.
A key component to any project closeout is the timely submission of all required technical, financial and additional reports to the sponsor.
Closeout remains in effect for as long as research and administrative records are retained and as long as research findings are distributed. This period often continues for much longer than the time frames that sponsors consider for the official project timeline to have ended.
