STAR graphic with Plan, Propose, Setup, Manage, Closeout

The STAR System models all the stages and major activities involved in typical research projects. Activities include a combination of both programmatic/scientific and administrative tasks.

Research projects start by developing a research question and aligning a proposal with applicable funding opportunities. As research is conducted, a variety of personnel follow compliance requirements, maintain budgets and collect and analyze data. Projects conclude with final technical and financial reporting as well as scientific dissemination of the research outcomes.
