Roles and Collaborations
- The Principal Investigator (PI) is responsible for research and compliance components of the project
- Sponsored Research Services project administrators monitor projects by assisting PIs with expenses and modifying budgets, as necessary, as well as managing end-dates of agreements
- SRS project administrators conduct project payroll compliance checks to ensure that: accounts are not overspent; payroll payments occur within the award period; administrative expenditures are not charged unless specifically approved; and payroll guidelines for key personnel are followed
Planning and Next Steps
- Develop strategies for managing finances, resources and operations for the research project
- PIs prepare and submit technical/programmatic reports to the sponsor; nearly all grants and contracts require submission of a final report of the overall research that has been accomplished
Checklist for Considerations
- Disclose discoveries and inventions as they are developed through research, which most sponsors require
- Prepare a final inventory of equipment purchased, fabricated or furnished by the sponsor during the project
- Submit any interim and/or final financial reports required by the sponsor
- Continually verify compliance via standard controls throughout the project; report any incidents of non-compliance to appropriate university officials
