Roles and Collaborations
- Work with department research administrators to identify technical and business requirements as part of the planning process
- The Principal Investigator (PI) plans and submits proposals for external funding through a department and college/school, for submission to Sponsored Research Services, which is the office authorized to approve and sign off for proposals
- The PI is responsible for all aspects of the final proposal, with advice and support from colleagues, administrators in colleges/schools and research offices
- Consider contacting a subject or data librarian, which are specialists who assist with literature searches, data management planning and preparing for proposal development.

- Read and follow sponsor guidelines for specific requirements
- Determine project location, methods, required personnel, supplies, materials and additional budget considerations
- Factor in computing requirements, security safeguards and compliance regarding data classifications
