Tech Steps to Take Before Leaving TAMU

Graduating from Texas A&M University is a big milestone in an Aggie's life. It is a time filled with many emotions, some happy, others sad. Each year, a new group of Aggies set off to pave their path in the world and embark on a whole new journey. The Division of IT wants to make sure we can provide all the technology information you need as graduation approaches.

Forward your @TAMU email to a personal address
If you are one of those students who like to use their TAMU Gmail account for everything from job applications to staying connected with fellow Aggies, you will want to read this! You can forward your TAMU Gmail to another email account by following these instructions. In addition, it would be helpful to create an automatic response for all incoming emails letting the sender know to send emails to your other email account in the future.

TAMU Gmail and Google Apps access ends two years after graduation
Once you graduate, the countdown begins for your TAMU Google Apps and Gmail access as a student. To ensure you don't lose important information in past emails, export your @TAMU emails to a personal email account. Transfer your TAMU Gmail content to your personal email address using these steps.

Don't forget about software
This is the last chance for graduating seniors to purchase $5 Microsoft Office and other discounted software from the software store. Having the programs you need allows you to put your best foot forward when starting your new career. Your computer (and bank account) will thank you later! Graduating seniors must place their orders on software.tamu.edu by 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 11th.

Learn all you can with Lynda
Before you walk the stage and flip your tassel, take a few courses from Lynda! Lynda offers free online tutorials to all TAMU students. Learn Excel tricks or project management techniques before you enter your new career. There are over 120,000 video tutorials, so there is no excuse to not give Lynda a try! Access Lynda here.

Double check your holds before you leave
It is suggested that students check for transcript or graduation holds on the My Record tab in Howdy. Feel confident knowing there is nothing "holding" you back when you walk the stage in May.

Save data that is stored on an OAL desktop
Students who use computers in the Open Access Labs will want to ensure information saved to the desktop is retained. Bring a flash drive the next time you are working on a project to make sure your information will be transferred come graduation!
