What is E-Discovery

Electronic Discovery, or E-Discovery, refers to the process of identifying, preserving, collecting processing, reviewing and producing electronically stored information (ESI) as part of the larger civil procedure known as discovery.

E-Discovery at Texas A&M University is a function coordinated by the CISO covering a broader set of processes requiring similar identification, preservation, and collection activities. These may include:

  • Preservation holds and other tasks assigned by OGC
  • Public Information Request extractions from Technology Services services
  • Law enforcement investigations
  • Division of Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness and Aggie Honor System Office investigations requiring extractions from Technology Services services

E-Discovery and the CISO

The CISO coordinates IT preservation holds and other legal processes as the ESI Preservation Coordinator of Texas A&M University and facilitates the extraction of ESI from Technology Services services. The ESI Preservation Coordinator and designees perform E-Discovery operations in accordance with applicable rules, SAPs, standards, laws, and information security controls.
