Help Desk Central Workforce Manager Xiaobing "Sally" Yang is a recipient of Texas A&M's 2020 President's Meritorious Service Award (PMSA).

Established in 1986, the PMSA is annually awarded to 25 staff members and two supervisors who make extraordinary contributions to the Texas A&M University community. Recipients receive a $1,000 award, a commemorative plaque and a lapel pin.

A Texas A&M employee with 22 years of service, Yang has worked with Help Desk Central (HDC) and the Division of Information Technology 11 years.

Matt Lacy, assistant director of statewide IT service operations, said Yang always puts her team before herself as she schedules over 60 student employees to manage support requests.

"HDC leadership preaches the academic success of our student technicians before operational success, and Sally is the heart and soul of that mantra," he explained. "She treats every student technician like her own child and quickly becomes a mentor for them as they adjust to life as a Texas A&M student. Because of this, she is often called our 'HDC Mom.'"

Alyssa Hughes, the HDC student coordinator who made the nomination, said Yang treats everyone as an equal and is dedicated to Texas A&M, her job and everyone around her.

"In the two years I have worked with her, I have not heard a single negative comment about her," she said. "She makes Help Desk Central infinitely better and deserves this recognition."

A formal awards ceremony, open to all university employees, will be held August 10 at 10 a.m. in the Bethancourt Ballroom.
