Ed Pierson

Texas A&M University’s Division of Information Technology is pleased to welcome interim Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Ed Pierson. 

Pierson is a Texas A&M alumnus (class of 82) and former CIO, Director of IT and Assistant Vice Chancellor of Industry Partnerships for the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station and Texas A&M College of Engineering. As university CIO, Pierson will oversee the Division of Information Technology, including enterprise projects and IT governance. 

Pierson holds a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University and a Master’s of Science in Business from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Prior to returning to Aggieland, Pierson led numerous organizations in a variety of industries, including healthcare, energy, public safety, and data center operations. His experience and versatility will be invaluable in his new role leading a Tier-1 research university with over $1.13 billion dollars in funding. The Division of IT supports over 70,000 students and over 3,500 faculty members.

In addition to his leadership background, Pierson has built a strong skill set in IT, including years of experience in the design and delivery of high-performance technology solutions supporting high-growth environments.

“I believe this university’s potential is limitless,” said Pierson. “Achieving this potential is tied directly to the partnership between the Division of IT and our faculty and staff.”

 Pierson is eager to begin working collaboratively with the colleges, divisions and departments across Texas A&M University and the System.

“Key to our success is the ability to partner with all of the Texas A&M family of agencies and universities,” said Pierson. “We can learn from each other and continuously improve based on our collective experiences.”

With a results-driven, team-oriented and business-focused mindset, Pierson has already done a lot of good work for Texas A&M and is prepared to implement many new and exciting changes throughout the division. Welcome aboard, Ed!
