Health-Network-Story

Texas A&M Health is investing in the speed and reliability of its network by adding core equipment for redundancy.

“Network outages are always inconvenient, but with Texas A&M Health, an outage can bring everything to a sudden halt,” states Joshua Kissee, director of Health IT services and assistant chief information officer.  “We knew this needed to be done as soon as possible to improve the technology experience of our faculty, staff, students and clinicians. With this new investment, we are laying the foundation to enable the strategic imperatives of Vision 360 and underpinning focused research growth across Texas A&M Health.”

Dan Schmiedt, associate vice president of enterprise networks for the Division of Information Technology, said the upgrades in July will include replacing old technology with updated versions, while adding additional hardware to create redundancy in the network.

“The Division of Information Technology supports the missions of teaching, research and service,” Schmiedt said. “This upgrade will ensure the missions are not interrupted. The Health network core will be operating on modern, redundant and resilient hardware allowing aggregate speeds of up to 100 gigabits per second.”
