Ed Pierson, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Texas A&M University, has been recognized for his outstanding leadership and contributions to the field of technology management. He has been nominated as a finalist for the prestigious ORBIE Awards in the Enterprise category, celebrating excellence in technology leadership in various industries.

ORBIE Awards, given by Inspire, have been highly regarded within the technology community since 1998. They honor CIOs who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and business impact in their organizations. These awards not only highlight individual achievements but also acknowledge the critical role that technology executives play in driving organizational success and transformation.

Pierson's nomination underscores his strategic vision and effective management of technology resources at Texas A&M University. As CIO, he has overseen initiatives that have enhanced operational efficiency, supported academic research, and improved the overall technology infrastructure of the institution.

As a finalist in this Award category, Pierson will be honored at the ORBIE Awards on September 27, 2024. About Ed Pierson

Pierson has served as Texas A&M University’s Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer since 2021. 

In his previous positions at Texas A&M, Pierson served as the CIO and Director of IT for the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEES) and Texas A&M College of Engineering. 

Pierson earned a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University and a MS in Business from the University of Texas Dallas.

Early in his career, Pierson served as Vice President (VP) of Operations for Data Return, a leading Hosting company and as a Corporate Strategist for Novell. From 2003 to 2007, he served as the CIO and VP of Quality for Healthvision a SaaS based Electronic Medical record company supporting over 10M patient records. He then served as the CIO of EF Johnson, a worldwide manufacturer of Public Service radios and electronics. Prior to joining Texas A&M, Pierson was the Vice President (VP) of Information Technology for Snelling Staffing and Intrepid USA Healthcare. In his former roles, Pierson has repeatedly increased operational efficiency and added value to a variety of organizations in multiple industries.
