Universities are prime targets for phishing attacks, and these attacks have increased in frequency and sophistication. Phishing attacks that target universities can be financially motivated or target university resources and research. If any campus members account is compromised, it puts the whole Aggie community at risk.

Texas A&M has multiple layers of security in place to ensure the safety of our email system. In two weeks, approximately 14 million connections are made to the Texas A&M email system. About 95% of all inbound email is tagged as malicious and blocked.

Blocking Phishing Attacks at Texas A&M

Unfortunately, some sophisticated phishing emails will make it through the layers of security and reach your TAMU inbox. It’s important to report these emails.

It's not enough to be able to identify a phishing email - Aggies help Aggies! When you receive a phishing attempt in your A&M inbox, forward this email to Help Desk Central at helpdesk@tamu.edu as soon as possible. These emails can be used to improve security filters, making them smarter and more efficient at identifying increasingly sophisticated phishing scams. Your reporting could also help put the campus on alert to look out for this attack and not fall for it.

If you see a fake, report it to help keep Aggieland safe! For more information about phishing, visit Phishing (& Internet Scams).
