Gigabite Finals Hacks

Group Projects

Group projects are always a pain when having to coordinate time to get an assignment done — we get that! Have you ever tried Zoom? As a student at Texas A&M, the service is completely free and allows for quick, high quality video and audio calls. Save time and hassle with Zoom without actually having to physically be in the same place as your group!

Shortcuts

Whether you are taking notes in class, jotting down info while reading the textbook, or making a study guide, there are a few shortcuts that will make your note-taking extravaganza much more efficient.

Ctrl+i, Crtl+B, Ctrl+U

These shortcuts can be used to put your text in italics, bold, or underlined; respectively. These can be useful when trying to separate information into various sections, thereby drawing attention to the title or other important information.

Shift+Left/Right Arrow Key

In order to bold/italicize/underline text, you must first highlight it. This process could be streamlined if you simply pressed the shift key + in the direction you would like the cursor to move. Boom. Text = highlighted.

Ctrl+K

As a way to further enhance your study guide, you may choose to add links to a video or website that does a great job explaining a concept. You can easily revisit class examples or other helpful websites later by highlighting the word you want to add a link to (Shift+Left/Right Arrow Key) and then using Ctrl+K to add the hyperlink.

Ctrl+F

This one proves extremely useful when you are searching through lengthy notes. Use the Ctrl+F feature to search the document for a keyword or phrase to study smarter, not harder!

Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V

Making a quizlet from your notes? Use Ctrl+C (copy) and Ctrl+V (paste) to  move text from one location to another so you can get to those flashcards faster!

Open Access Labs (OALs)

Lastly, don’t forget to always Ctrl+S (save) your document to avoid any tragedies! After you’ve completed your beautifully formatted study guide, head over to any printing station on campus and take advantage of AggiePrint — each student has $30 of printing credits each semester!

Papers

Run-on sentences, don’t end a sentence with a prepositional phrase, i before e except after c — it’s hard to keep up! It’s even harder to keep up with all of the rules of the English language when you are simultaneously trying to write a paper to save your grade at the end of the semester. Thankfully, there’s a solution. If you find that there’s no time to visit the University Writing Center, try downloading the Grammarly plug in to your Chrome browser. It can find spelling and grammar mistakes, along with offering you suggestions for more concise wording on most websites, including GoogleDocs, Twitter, Gmail, and LinkedIn.
