Questions about password resets, internet connectivity and other tech issues can now be answered by a new member of Texas A&M's Help Desk Central: Amazon's Alexa.

"Aggie Tech Help" is a new Alexa skill released by the Texas A&M University Division of Information Technology. Users on campus can access Aggie Tech Help using the Alexa app on a mobile device. The skill will work off campus on Amazon devices such as the Echo and Dot.

Some questions Alexa can answer using the skill set are, "How do I reset my NetID password?" and "Where can I find computer labs on campus?"

A student team developed the proof of concept for the skill as part of the Capstone senior design course in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

"This is an innovative project in many ways," said Texas A&M Vice President for IT and Chief Information Officer M. Dee Childs. "It gives members of the campus community quick access to the answers they need and shows the potential Alexa has across Texas A&M. But it also provided invaluable, hands-on experience for four students." To initially set up the skill, users can say, "Alexa, enable Aggie Tech Help" using their device. The skill can also be enabled at amazon.com/skills.

More information and instructions for using Aggie Tech Help can be found at it.tamu.edu/Alexa.
