Texas A&M University is expanding its 5G infrastructure to power research, education and innovation. The Division of Information Technology is pleased to announce the hiring of Nash Higgins, as 5G Network Architect.

Dan Schmiedt, Associate Vice President for Enterprise Networks for the Division of Information Technology, is excited to have Higgins join the team.

“Nash is going to be very valuable to our team. His extensive experience on the carrier side of wireless connectivity gives Texas A&M a unique advantage among our peers,” said Schmiedt. “We look forward to strengthening the 5G infrastructure the Texas A&M System is building to power connectivity for research and innovation at College Station, RELLIS and other System campuses.”

Higgins has worked in wireless communications for over 35 years, including more than 20 years with Verizon, serving in both network engineering and operations leadership roles. Most recently, he was the Chief Technology Officer at Proteus Services. Proteus Services specializes in building wireless networks and partnered with Texas A&M in supporting and expanding the wireless network for Kyle Field.

An important responsibility of this new role is to ensure the varied needs of Texas A&M’s students, faculty and staff are met as the division begins to build the Next Generation Aggie Network.

Higgins’ goal in constructing this revolutionary new network is to help A&M “lead academia by establishing wireless networks that lead to innovative, valuable discoveries and next-generation services and products.” We are happy to have Nash Higgins on board!
