Getting Started

Help and Support

Texas A&M Technology Services offers twisted pair Fast Ethernet (100BaseTX) or Gigabit (1000BaseTX) connection to a single Fast Ethernet or Gigabit end device (PC, Mac, printer, etc.). We will provide all needed networking equipment and maintenance at a cost. The customer will be responsible only for providing a 100BaseTX or 1000BaseTX interface for the machine. Users may access the connection at the wall jack only; all other aspects of the connection (network backbone, wiring closets, routers, bridges, etc.) are managed by Technology Services.

Technology Services also offers moves of existing 100BaseT or 1000BaseT desktop connections. An itemized list of existing connections that will be disconnected must be included for a move request to be processed.

An installation request for an area with no previous 1000BaseT connections from the nearest wiring closet will require the purchase of a new switch.

Guidelines

Desktop Connection Requirements

Texas A&M Technology Services provides network connections and upgrades that are engineered to ensure the speed, reliability and security of the network. In addition, the following requirements must be met:

  1. Desktop connections are limited to two devices per connection if one of the devices is an approved VoIP device. Otherwise, each desktop connection is restricted to only one user device. Violations of this restriction will result in the disabling of the desktop connection until the situation has been corrected.
  2. All use of the campus network must follow Texas A&M policies and procedures and must follow local, state and federal laws. Any violations may result in administrative and/or legal action.
  3. All users should respect the campus network as a shared resource. Any activity that hinders Technology Services' ability to ensure reliable operation of the campus network may result in disabling of the desktop connection.
  4. Desktop connections and all of the network infrastructure that supports them are managed by Technology Services. No modification or alteration of this infrastructure by the customer is allowed. Any problems or other questions concerning the network infrastructure should be reported to Technology Services for handling.
