Overview
1Password is a comprehensive password management tool designed to help individuals and teams securely store and manage passwords and other sensitive information.
Technology Services has selected 1Password as the only approved password manager at Texas A&M University. Texas A&M provides employees with access to 1Password for use with university business.
Currently, only certain departments use 1Password. To see if you are eligible, please contact your department's IT support team. Interested departments should contact password-management@tamu.edu for more information.
Getting Started
To activate your 1Password account for university business, please email password-management@tamu.edu to create a ticket and receive an activation email from 1Password. Note: you are required to sign up and log in via single sign-on (SSO).
We strongly recommend you log in on the desktop or mobile app after you complete the 1Password sign up process. When setting up your 1Password account for the first time, the initial sign-up must be completed in a browser and that browser becomes a trusted device. If you do not set up an additional trusted device (like the desktop or mobile app), you will experience login issues if you clear that browser’s cache or cookies.
Vaults
Vaults are secure containers where you can store and organize different types of information. 1Password features two types of vaults: Personal and Shared.
A 1Password Personal vault is automatically created for you the first time you log in to 1Password. This is the vault you will likely use the most, as it is where you should store information that only you should have access to.
1Password Shared vaults are intended to store information that needs to be accessible by multiple people, but still securely stored and managed. Anyone can create a Shared vault and share it with other 1Password users. You can create Shared vaults on the 1Password webpage, the 1Password desktop app, or the 1Password mobile app.
Please note: No one, including Texas A&M or 1Password, can see the items in your Personal vault and only individuals added to your Shared vaults can see the items within.
Linking a Families Account
Texas A&M 1Password licenses include a free 1Password Families membership that you can redeem for personal use for you and up to five family members. To redeem this account, you must first set up your TAMU 1Password account.
While you are an employee of Texas A&M, your 1Password Families membership is free, but if you cease employment, you can continue to use your 1Password Families membership by paying for a personal 1Password subscription.
Please note: 1Password Families memberships are completely separate personal accounts and are not tied in any way to your NetID. Additionally, Texas A&M does not provide support for these accounts—please contact 1Password Support for any issues.
